A fire broke out in a flat on the fifth floor of a residential building on Foulden Road in Hackney on Thursday 17 October. 

Around 35 firefighters and five fire engines from Stoke Newington, Hornsey, Bethnal Green, Whitechapel, and other nearby stations were called to attend the scene at around 13:27, Thursday afternoon.  

The London Fire Brigade told Eastlondonlines: “Around 30 people were led to safety from the property by firefighters and one man was assessed on-scene by London Ambulance Service.”

A spokesman for the London Brigade said that at the time of the incident: “One of the brigade’s 32-metre turntable ladders is being used at the scene as an observation tower, providing incident commanders with an aerial view of the incident and better situational awareness.”

They had also advised people to steer clear of the area until emergency responders had made it safe. 

The blaze destroyed an external gas cupboard, and partially damaged external fascia on the fifth floor of the building. 

The London Fire Brigade told Eastlondonlines that the fire is believed to have been caused after flammable vapours from expanding foam caught light.
