Fourth man charged for murder in Tower Hamlets shooting

A fourth man has been charged with the murder of Joshua McLean in Bethnal Green, Tower Hamlets.

Muhammad Abbas, 22, of Bradford Road, Kirklees appeared at Thames Magistrates’ Court on October 7, following his arrest on October 5.

Joshua McLean, 31, was fatally shot in Weaver Fields, Wilmot Street, E2 at around 8:30pm on August 6.

Police officers along with the London Ambulance Service attended the scene. McLean received first aid but died from his injuries.

Previously, on September 26, three other men were charged and appeared in court:

  • Nefur Miah, 36, of Redmans Road, E1
  • Muhammed Ismail Ali, 37, of Marlborough Road, RM7
  • Simeon Oliver-Stewart, 30, of Clevedon Close, N16

The investigation is led by the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime Command detectives.

Detective Inspector Jonny Newell, from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, said: “Our thoughts remain with Joshua’s family who are absolutely devastated by this tragic incident.

“[I] would like to appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time of this incident to get in touch with police if they haven’t done so already.”

There is still an appeal to the public and anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the police on 101 quoting CAD 7454/06AUG. Information, images or camera footage can also be given via the portal.
