November 30: Capturing pickets and kettles across the capital

Up to one million people joined rallies around the UK yesterday as a public sector strike over pensions disrupted schools, hospitals, courts and other services.

Two-thirds of state schools shut, and thousands of hospital operations were postponed, as unions staged a 24-hour walk out.

There were 52 arrests across the capital, as splinter and support groups rallied across London.

EastLondonLines followed the day’s events, beginning at pickets in Croydon, Tower Hamlets, Lewisham, and Hackney, before joining the main march from Lincoln’s Inn Fields at midday. Our reporters were also on hand at the Dalston demonstrations earlier in the day, as well at the centre of disturbances in Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square and Haymarket last night.

Below is our selection of some of the best photographs from the November 30 strike.
